PECFN Gala Dinner a Fund Raising Success

Chef Michael Hoy produced a wonderful dinner for an overflow guest list at the Ostrander Point Appeal Fund Gala on Saturday night.  The Picton Curling Club members lounge was transformed into an elegant dining room for the event.  County wine was donated by the Prince Edward County Winegrowers’ Association.  Violinist Peter Mannheim entertained before dinner and MC Ian Hanna auctioned off donated art, wine and gift items throughout the evening.  The committee is delighted with the net proceeds of over $3300 which will bring the Ostrander Point appeal Fund total to almost $45,000.

Fund raising continues on Saturday April 27 with a presentation by Clematis Expert Peter Keeping at Bloomfield Town Hall at 2-4 pm.  Coffee and goodies will be served and Peter will have some beautiful Clematis plants for sale. This is a “don’t miss” event for gardeners and “want to be” gardeners.

PECFN was happy to accept the invitation of CCSAGE to participate in the Town Hall meeting Thursday April 25 at the Regent 6:30 – 9:30 pm.  Representatives of APPEC and CCSAGE will also be on hand with information and donation material.

Meanwhile the Environmental Review Tribunal resumes this week in Demorestville.  The schedule is as follows:

Wed Apr 24:  Voltura (from DeTect the company that produces the Merlin radar system)

Thursday: MNR: Fiona McGuiness and Eric Prevost

Friday: Prevost cross, Andy Baxter and Melissa LaPlante, (LaPlante was the Species at Risk staff on the project.  Baxter is her boss.)

Monday Apr 29:  MNR cross continued if needed.

Monday afternoon: County Sustainability Group

Apr 30:  Scott Reynolds (bats) and Doug Larson (Alvar)

May 1: Doug Larson and Paul Kerlinger (bird expert)

May 2: Strickland (birds) and Linton (Monarchs)

May 3:  Toronto Shilling (road ecology) and Brown (hydrology)

May 6: Brown cont’d (Toronto?) Edge (Blanding’s)

May 7: PECFN reply

The schedules are always fluid, so any changes will be relayed as we get them.  Please continue to attend at Sophiasburgh Town Hall if you can, to help us keep the pressure on the Tribunal and the proponent.

Once more we thank all the people who came to our dinner and donated so generously.  Special thanks go to Ian Hanna for helping people part with their money and the Picton Curling Club for donating the venue and bar staff.
