Heavy EquipmentIn spite of the Environmental Review Tribunal (ERT) ruling that the White Pines industrial wind turbine project will cause serious and irreversible harm to the Blanding’s turtle population on Prince Edward County’s south shore, proponent WPD has commenced site preparation and vegetation clearing on some project properties.

On the weekend Blanding’s turtles were found by knowledgeable observers.  These early sightings show that the turtles have emerged from hibernation and are moving through their habitat.  The destruction of their habitat and potential nesting areas, in spite of the ERT ruling, poses a serious risk to the turtles.

APPEC will be taking steps to attempt to prevent the continuation of this habitat destruction and direct physical risk to the turtles.

Orville Walsh
President, APPEC
