PEC  Council is being asked to approve of White  Pines project on Thursday March 24 at 1pm Shire Hall.

We need you to let  your Councillor know that entering into an agreement NOW with wpd is premature.

PEC Council Committee of the Whole will be considering agreements proposed by wpd – a Road Users Agreement and a Community Benefit Agreement – Thursday March 24 at 1pm Shire Hall.  These agreements will affect many local roads and offer $7000 per turbine for the first 10 years, increasing to $9500 per turbine after the first 16 years of the project up to the anticipated Termination date of 20 – 25 years.

The Road Users Agreement provides for ‘improvements’ to existing roads, crossing of unopened road allowances, allowing electrical cabling along roads encroachment or oversize load permits, and ‘restoring’ roads to their prior condition as part of a Blanding’s turtle mitigation plan after the company ceases operation in 20 to 50 years.

These agreements have been negotiated by Commissioners McAuley and Hepburn who are recommending their approval.  This Road Agreement would give prior approval of the very issues that are still to be ruled on by the Tribunal.   Council should postpone any agreements made with wpd or Gilead until the Tribunal appeals are resolved.

It is important for everyone who is available to attend this meeting and hear our Councillors debate these issues and inform them of our opinion and concerns.
